Protobiont

Protobiont
Protobiont, als einfachste Lebensform und als Vorstufe einer Zelle hypothetisch gefordertes System aus zusammenwirkenden Polynucleotiden und Proteinoiden (⇒ Hyperzyklus), die von einer semipermeablen Membran aus Lipiden und Proteinen umschlossen gedacht werden. Die P. müssen heterotroph gewesen sein und die zunächst in ihrer Umgebung reichlich vorhandenen organischen Stoffe genutzt haben. P. sind in der ⇒ Biogenese vor etwa 3,6 Mrd. Jahren entstanden. Mögliche Reste von P. sind verschiedentlich gefunden worden (z.B. südafrikanische Fig-tree- Formation, 3,1 Mrd. Jahre). P. entwickelten sich zu ⇒ Prokaryoten.
