Prolactin
Prolactin, luteotropes Hormon, lactotropes Hormon, LTH, in der Adenohypophyse gebildetes, in seiner Struktur dem Somatotropin ähnelndes Proteinhormon, das bei Säugern die Progesteronbildung im Gelbkörper und während der Schwangerschaft die Entwicklung des Brustgewebes fördert, nach der Entbindung die Milchproduktion steigert sowie Brutpflegeverhalten auslöst. Im Hoden m Säuger verstärkt es die Testosteronbildung. Unter seinem Einfluss werden vermehrt Wasser und Elektrolyte im Körper zurückgehalten. Durch Stress wird die P.bildung verstärkt. Auch bei anderen Wirbeltieren hat P. vielfältige Funktionen. So unterdrückt es bei Amphibien die Metamorphose, fördert bei Eidechsen das Wachstum, stimuliert bei Tauben die Sekretion von Kropfmilch, ferner allgemein die Brutentwicklung bei Vögeln, das Aufsuchen der Laichgewässer bei Molchen, es setzt bei Fischen die Durchlässigkeit von Haut und inneren Organen für Wasser herab und übt in der Amnionflüssigkeit einen Einfluss auf den Stofftransport durch die Embryonalhäute aus. P. wird bisweilen den ⇒ Gonadotropinen zugeordnet.
