Hypotremata, Rochen, Unterordnung der ⇒ Elasmobranchii. Körper abgeplattet; dem Rumpf mit breiter Basis ansitzende, bis zur Körperspitze verlängerte Brustflossen. Einige Arten, z.B. Torpedo, Zitterrochen, mit elektrischem Organ; giftige Stacheln bei Trygon, Stechrochen. Meist marine Bodenbewohner; Potamotrygon in Flüssen der Tropen; Nahrung Weichtiere.
