Gnathostomata, Kiefermünder, Überklasse der ⇒ Vertebrata; im Gegensatz zu den ⇒ Agnatha haben die G. einen Mund mit Kieferbogen, der primär aus Palatoquadratum (Oberkiefer) und Man-dibulare (Unterkiefer) besteht und das ⇒ Kiefergelenk einschließt. Höchstens 7 Paar Kiemenspalten; 3 Bogengänge im statischen Organ; Spermienausleitung meist durch Wolffschen Gang, Ausleitung der Eier meist durch Müllerschen Gang. Klassen: ⇒ Placodermi, Panzerfische; ⇒ Acanthodii; ⇒ Chondrichthyes, Knorpelfische; ⇒ Osteichthyes, Knochenfische; ⇒ Amphibia, Lurche; ⇒ Reptilia, Kriechtiere; ⇒ Aves, Vögel; ⇒ Mammalia, Säuger. Amphibien, Reptilien, Vögel und Säuger werden als ⇒ Tetrapoda, Landwirbeltiere zusammengefasst. Placodermi, Acanthodii, Chondrichthyes und Osteichthyes sowie Amphibien haben keine Embryonalhüllen. Man stellt sie daher oft als Anamnia den Amniota (Reptilien, Vögel, Säuger) gegenüber, die auch als höhere Wirbeltiere bezeichnet werden.
