Trichome, Pflanzenhaare, stets aus einer einzelnen Zelle entstehende, ein- oder mehrzellige Auswüchse der Pflanzenepidermis. T. sind vielgestaltig und erfüllen sehr unterschiedliche Aufgaben. Auf Absorptionsgeweben befinden sich Wurzelhaare und Schuppenhaare. Drüsenhaare (z.B. Geranium robertianum, Stinkender Storchschnabel) dienen der Sekretion von Stoffen. Die Haarbildung auf Früchten und Samen kann die Ausbreitung durch Tiere (z.B. Galium aparine, Klebriges Labkraut) und den Wind (z.B. Taraxacum officinale, Gemeiner Löwenzahn) fördern. Schutz vor Verdunstung und Strahlung bieten tote lufterfüllte Haare (z.B. Verbascum, Königskerze). Mit hakig gebogenen Klimmhaaren halten sich einige windende und klimmende Pflanzen fest (z.B. Humulus lupulus, Hopfen). Schutz vor Tierfraß bieten die durch Calcium- und Kieselsäureeinlagerungen in der Zellwand harten Borstenhaare. Dazu gehören auch die einzelligen ⇒ Brennhaare (z.B.
