Population
Population, Gesamtheit der Individuen einer Art, die unter spezifischen Umweltbedingungen gleichzeitig einen bestimmten, mehr oder weniger von anderen Artangehörigen isolierten Lebensraum bewohnen. Der Genpool der P. besteht aus den gesamten Allelen aller Individuen der P. Die meisten Pflanzen, Tiere sowie der Mensch bilden Mendel-P. Diese bestehen aus diploiden, sich sexuell fortpflanzenden Individuen, die sich potentiell uneingeschränkt miteinander paaren. Der Genpool einer Mendel-P. bleibt nach der Hardy- Weinberg-Regel konstant, d.h. die Häufigkeit der Allele in der P. (Allelfrequenz) bleibt gleich. Dies gilt jedoch nur in einer idealen P., nicht in einer realen P., in der es zu Abweichungen von den Veränderungen des Genpools kommt (Mikroevolution).
