Phasmatodea, Gespenstheuschrecken, Ordnung der Insekten, die ca. 2500 überwiegend in den Tropen lebende, pflanzenfressende Arten umfasst; Unterklasse Pterygota; 5–35 cm lang. Die P. sind durch Mimese meist gut an ihren Lebensraum angepasst: Zweignachahmer Carausius, Stabheuschrecken; Blattnachahmer Phyllium, Blattschrecken. Unvollkommene Verwandlung; Fortpflanzung auch durch Parthenogenese. P. werden mit Saltatoria und bisweilen auch Dermaptera häufig zur Gruppe der Orthopteroidea zusammengefasst.
